SOLUTION
As a manufacturing customer expanded its production capacity, Liftsafe delivered two custom-engineered scissor-style lifting devices designed to safely handle poles of varying diameters. Built for reliability and seamless integration into existing operations, the solution helps ensure consistent, efficient material handling across multiple production lines.
When a long-standing manufacturing customer expanded its production capabilities, Liftsafe was asked to provide two additional custom lifting devices for handling poles of varying diameters.
The application required more than a conventional below-the-hook lifting device. The equipment needed to safely engage and handle different pole diameters while providing a repeatable solution suited to the customer’s production process.
Liftsafe engineered and supplied two custom 1-tonne scissor-style lifting devices, bringing the total number of units provided for this application to six.
The Challenge
Handling long, cylindrical products present unique material-handling challenges, particularly when product diameters vary between production runs. The customer required a lifting solution that could:
- Handle poles of varying diameters
- Provide a secure and controlled grip around the load
- Support a lifting capacity of 1 tonne (2,200 lbs.)
- Integrate into the customer’s existing manufacturing environment
- Provide consistent operation across multiple production lines
- Meet applicable engineering and electrical requirements
With additional production lines being added, maintaining consistency with the equipment already successfully used within the facility was also important.

The Liftsafe Solution
Liftsafe designed and manufactured two additional custom scissor-style pole handling devices specifically for the customer’s application.
Each device uses two large opposing scissor-style gripping assemblies positioned along a structural lifting frame. The powered mechanisms open and close the circular gripping assemblies around the pole, allowing the equipment to accommodate varying pole diameters.
The contact surfaces incorporate protective black lining at the gripping points, while the structural assembly is finished in high-visibility yellow for the manufacturing environment.
Proven Design, Expanded Application
A key measure of the project’s success is the customer’s continued investment in the solution.
These latest two lifting devices represent the fifth and sixth units supplied by Liftsafe for this application. As the customer’s manufacturing operations and production lines have expanded, additional units have been incorporated to support that growth.
Rather than developing a new handling method for each expansion, the customer has been able to build on a proven solution already established within its operation.
The Result
The project provided the customer with two additional purpose-built lifting devices that maintain consistency across its expanding production operation.
The solution demonstrates Liftsafe‘s ability to take a specialized material-handling requirement and develop a custom engineered lifting device that can be replicated as a customer’s manufacturing requirements grow.
For manufacturers handling large, unusually shaped or variable-size products, custom below-the-hook equipment can provide an effective alternative when standard lifting devices do not meet the application.
